The universal language of progress

Our modern world is built on the laws of mathematics. From error-correcting codes in satellite communications, to computational geometry in robotic vacuum cleaners; from encrypted electronic transactions to topological analysis in big data - what started as mathematical innovations have now become a part of daily life. Mathematics is the stem cell of innovation - adaptable, foundational, and far-reaching.

A new beacon of mathematical brilliance

The Lodha Mathematical Sciences Institute - the only privately-funded mathematical sciences institute in India dedicated purely to research - is an initiative by one of India’s largest charitable organisations, the Lodha Foundation, and is inspired by our philosophy of 'Do Good, Do Well'.

In pursuit of excellence

Inspired by India’s rich tradition of mathematical excellence, the Lodha Mathematical Sciences Institute seeks to build upon a legacy of innovation and analytical rigor that has shaped some of the world’s greatest contributions to mathematics. The institute will serve as a beacon of mathematical excellence, attracting the best minds from around the world and fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and discovery.

Location

Nestled within Lodha Excelus at New Cuffe Parade, the institute benefits from an address that is both prestigious and practical. Strategically located at the confluence of Mumbai’s key highways, arterial roads, and expressways, and in proximity to the Metro and Monorail, New Cuffe Parade offers exceptional connectivity across the city. It is a mere 10-minute drive to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), 20 minutes to Fort, and approximately 30 minutes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Significantly, the institute is positioned almost equidistant from two of Mumbai’s most esteemed academic institutions — the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Colaba and IIT Bombay in Powai — both accessible within about 40 minutes.

Programme Details

Thematic Programs

  • The institute will initially organize 6-month long thematic programs on focussed topics, in line with leading research institutions around the world.

  • These research programs will have beginning and more established researchers collaborating on the main open problems of the area with the aim of advancing the field. The first thematic program (Aug 2025) will be on Arithmetic Statistics, and will be led by Prof. Manjul Bhargava of Princeton University.

  • Prof. Bhargava received the Fields Medal in 2014 for his groundbreaking work on Arithmetic Statistics.

Symposiums and Seminars

  • Inaugural Symposium (Aug 2025): A high-profile event to mark the launch of the institute, featuring distinguished speakers including members from our Scientific Advisory Panel and other globally renowned mathematicians

  • Indian Congress of Mathematicians: Annually curated event to celebrate the achievements of mathematicians of Indian origin, and in the process to create a network of such mathematicians.

  • Lecture Series: The institute will run regular seminar series delivered by leading experts, covering a broad range of topics in pure and applied mathematics. These seminars will provide a platform for the dissemination of research and fostering a vibrant intellectual community.
